Fairport's packett mule, "Sal" was designed in 2003 as part of the Community Art Project "Animal Scramble."

The artist Jennifer Meagher participated in the project because "it brings people together in joyful celebration. I have lived in this area my entire life and I am proud to call Fairport my home."

Sal's design is intended to be both historic and commemorative; it is dedicated to the men and mules who died building the Erie Canal.

Now, Sal greets visitors in front of Village Hall and enjoys Kodak moments with children, families, visitors and anyone who wants to be remembered by taking a photograph with her.

Erie Canal Song: "I've got a mule, and her name is Sal, fifteen miles on the Erie Canal!"
